Living in the Australian bush is one of the most beautiful places that someone could choose to be, and those who live there are fiercely happy with their surroundings. Unfortunately, these same surroundings are prone to devastating Fire Bunkers that can completely wipeout a homeowner, both in the form of a home and all of its contents. Worse yet, the possibility for the loss of human life is a constant danger faced by those living in areas considered to be potential hot spots. One of the hardest decisions that a homeowner has to make is whether to evacuate or whether to stay and try to defend the house from fire danger. If the choice is to stay and try to fight or in the event that evacuation is not a possibility due to sudden fire conditions cutting off potential escape routes, where can the homeowner go to escape the danger if they are caught and cut off by a bush fire? Fortunately, there is an answer that can provide an added measure of protection for the homeowners who might be caught off guard and find themselves threatened by the unpredictable movement of a bush fire. That safety measure is to have an emergency fire shelter that meets government safety standards. For those who are not familiar with them, a Fire Bunkers is an air tight, precast concrete structure of varying size that is buried underground. These shelters are protected from the heat of the fire burning overhead through the insulation of the ground, a factor which helps to insure that the air and ambient temperature inside stay at a comfortable level. In addition, the door of the shelter is especially engineered remain air tight below the fire level to prevent smoke caused by the dire from getting inside and contaminating the breathable air inside the shelter. Models come with enough air capacity to comfortably support four to five adults for up to four hours, an amount of time judged by experts to be more than adequate to protect people from a fire storm going through an area (in general, most in the know feel that occupants in a fire shelter will spend less than an hour's time inside). A proper shelter allows a family to quickly escape into it if the threat of being burned is imminent. When properly installed, there is little chance of being trapped inside because the Fire Bunkers is located away from any trees that could fall over or structures that could collapse if burned in a fire. Since the amount of time spent in a shelter is estimated to be of such a short duration, it is not necessary to factor in cooking capabilities or the need for more than the most rudimentary of toilet facilities. Experts seem to be of the opinion that some loss of property is an inevitable cost of living in certain fire-prone areas, but with a secure fire shelter immediately available for those living in areas considered to be at risk, the chance of losing human life is minimized. Remember, things can always be replaced --- a loved one cannot. |
